Who We Are

Welcome to the Restitution Study Group (RSG) web page.  We are a not-for-profit institute based in the New York City-metropolitan area.  We examine innovative approaches to securing justice for injuries inflicted upon oppressed people.

We aim to end the cycles of unjust enrichment perpetuated by parties that commit inhumane and immoral acts against others for profit.

A key area of our work is slavery restitution research, education, and outreach.

The RSG believes that restitution is a key to healing all Americans around this sensitive issue.

Nearly 250 --years of slavery and a subsequent 100 years of Jim Crow have left indelible marks in all areas of the lives of people of African descent including deficits in: economic development, education, quality healthcare, affordable housing and home ownership, and employment opportunities.

The Solution - A Humanitarian Trust Fund:
A humanitarian trust funded by parties that participated in and benefited from slavery would address the capital needs of African Americans while fostering a healing partnership between corporate America and communities of African descendants.

Toward this end, the RSG partners with community groups and leaders  to coordinate negotiation and litigation efforts to educate and bring about positive and lasting change.

The Restitution Study Group coordinated the filing of nine class action lawsuits against corporations for slavery restitution and consumer fraud.  We accomplished a historic victory in the effort, and are moving into a new stage of litigation toward securing full justice for slavery and its vestiges.
